The Atlanta Hawks Could Pan Out Like The Tatum-Led Boston Celtics, Per Jeff Teague
Last season wasn’t much of a success for the Atlanta Hawks who are being led by young All-Star point guard Trae Young. Missing the presence of John Collins who missed almost a third of the season due to a 25-game suspension, the team suffered 47 losses and only managed to win 20 games.
While the team had somewhat of a setback last year with Collins’ suspension, the team found themselves in a position to draft another top talent in this year’s NBA draft with the sixth overall pick. Establishing a promising young core, it is a common knowledge that the Hawks may have one of the brightest futures within the NBA.
In a recent interview with ‘HoopsHype’, Jeff Teague, who was traded to the Hawks midway through the 2019-20 season, had the chance to give a few insights on the team’s young core. He mentioned that the team has the potential to pan out like the Boston Celtics who are bannered by young studs in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
“When I got there (Atlanta Hawks), the dynamic was totally different. They have a young team, they’re trying to find themselves and get their nucleus together. They’ve got a lot of talented players. We all know Trae is a star. John Collins is a stud. They’ve got two young wings that I think can really be good. I see the potential for their team can be like Boston.
I’m not saying they’re at Boston’s level right now, but the potential to be like Boston if Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter grow as I think they can, I think they can be like a Boston team with Clint Capela at center and a couple more veteran pieces, that group can be a special team.”
