Potential No.1 Pick Anthony Edwards Loves Football & Can’t Watch Basketball, Isn’t ‘Into It’
Earlier this year, potential number one pick Anthony Edwards revealed that he thinks Kevin Durant is already the greatest basketball player of all-time.
Edwards initially called Durant ‘the greatest player’ during an interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report. When he was then questioned if he was thinking ‘ever’ or ‘right now’, Edwards picked the former, claiming that Durant is above both Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
But this isn’t even the weirdest or most unbelievable fact about the NBA player to be.. at all.
Turns out Edwards isn’t actually looking forward to becoming an NBA player, more so he doesn’t even like to watch basketball. It’s all business.
The lottery prospect actually loves football, but recognized early on that he was very talented in basketball and that he would be able to accomplish more in basketball, than what he would have been able to achieve in football. In an interview with ESPN, Edwards even revealed that if he was drafted by the NFL, he’d instantly let basketball go.
“To be honest,” he says, “I can’t watch basketball.”
He retells the story about the first time he dunked and how it signaled to him that he was talented and could accomplish something he might not have been able to in football, which was his first love. So that’s the direction he went, simple as that, hanging up his cleats. “That’s all I needed to see,” he says.
So when after that did he get into basketball?
“I’m still not really into it,” he says. “I love basketball, yeah. It’s what I do.”
He’s not entirely convincing. He says if he were drafted by the NFL tomorrow, he’d let basketball go. “Because you can do anything on the field,” he explains. “You can spike the ball. You can dance. You can do all type of disrespectful stuff.” In the NBA, he says, “you can’t do any of that. You’ll get fined.”
