With Daryl Morey In Philadelphia, China Has Dropped 76ers Broadcasts
Last year, after then Houston Rockets General Manager, Daryl Morey tweeted his support for Hong Kong protestors, the NBA faced a major backlash from China. Everything that had to do with the Rockets had basically been deleted in China. Nike stopped selling Rockets products in every fan shop or NBA related website or store in China, and you only found 29 existing NBA teams from then on.
With Morey going to the Philadelphia 76ers this past offseason, the Chinese pettiness seemed to tag along and now has its new NBA enemy in the City of Brotherly Love.
Chinese streaming giant Tencent has stopped live broadcasts of 76ers games, just like they refused to screen Rockets games last season. State broadcaster CCTV, which holds China’s exclusive TV rights for the NBA, on the other hand, has not aired any games since the start of the season.
Due to China being the NBA’s biggest international market, the league has lost hundreds of millions of dollars yet again.
