Mychal Thompson Likens James Wiseman To David Robinson

James Wiseman hasn’t been making as many headlines as other rookies like LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards, but the Golden State Warriors big man doesn’t require much of an introduction as he’s still one of the familiar faces of the loaded 2021 NBA draft class and has been one of the most outstanding so far this season.

Wiseman took some time to get a feel to the fast-paced NBA game, but as the season progresses, Wiseman has visibly become more comfortable. Over the past 26 games, the second overall pick is averaging 12.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game on 51.5% shooting from the field in just 20.6 minutes of playing time.

Boasting high upside, Wiseman has drawn a lot of comparisons to stars and other all-time greats. According to a recent comparison uttered by Klay Thompson’s father Mychal Thompson, Wiseman is similar to San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson.

Per NBC Sports:

“I played against David Robinson, and he reminds me of a young David Robinson,” Thompson said. “Athletic, fast, good hands, good touch. He’s going to be a star in this league for many, many years.”

“The Warriors got a good one in James Wiseman because he’s willing to just absorb all the knowledge,” Thompson said. “He’s very mature for his age, and to go along with his skills, I think he’s going to be a multiple time All-Star.”
