How Kobe Bryant Motivated & Challenged Giannis Antetokounmpo
Kobe Bryant, one of the NBA’s best players in league history, was known as a motivator and role model for today’s generation of NBA stars. He has affected many players’ lives, and as he was getting older, embraced the idea of becoming a mentor and teacher for younger basketball players.
His ‘Mamba Mentality’, the killer and dominant instinct that allowed him to never give up, and always give it his all, was influential to players, fans, and athletes all around the globe.
When Kobe retired, he continued to train with NBA players, and teach them some of his signature moves and skills. He also expected 100% from anyone he trained, played, or spoke to.
In 2017, when Giannis posted a Twitter caption reading “Still waiting for my challenge”, while tagging Bryant, Kobe was quick to respond, and simply said “MVP”.

Since Kobe’s challenge, Giannis has gotten better every single season he’s been in the league, and has won not one, but two MVP’s.
During last night’s All-Star Game, Giannis won the All-Star Game MVP and the ‘Kobe Bryant’ trophy. This award is given to the All-Star Game’s Most valuable player. Last year, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, renamed the trophy to commemorate the Mamba. Kobe had won the award 4 times in his illustrious career.
Kobe motivated the Greek Freak to win MVP, and then Giannis proceeded to win the ‘Kobe Bryant’ award, in honor of one of his mentors. Giannis scored 35 points, and went 16-for-16 from the field. The Mamba was in Giannis last night.
