Shaquille O’Neal Suggests The Golden State Warriors Should Tank Until Klay Thompson Returns
While the Golden State Warriors were held to low expectations because of Klay Thompson’s unavailability, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green gave them a glimpse of hope earlier this season when the Warriors were climbing up to the playoff picture and hovering at around 7th to 8th position.
In a stacked Western Conference, the margin of error however is too small for a team trying to stay afloat in the playoff race. With their current 19-19 team-loss record, the Warriors have now dropped into the 10th seed in the West standings.
As the Warriors find their title chances, let alone playoff chances slipping away, Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal believes that they should write off their season and tank until Klay Thompson comes back healthy.
“We had this conversation a couple of years ago whether the team should or should not do it. I would tank. I would say, ‘Steph, we’re not going to make the playoffs. If we do, we’re going to lose in the first round. Get some rest, let me audition these young guys. Because Klay is coming back soon…”
