Jeanie Buss Talks About Uncertainty Of Keeping LeBron James After Failed 2019 Season: “I Wouldn’t Have Faulted LeBron”

Having LeBron James on the team draws sky-high expectations, and that’s what the Los Angeles Lakers experienced right after signing LeBron in 2018. However, the Lakers became one of the most disappointing storylines of the 2019 NBA season as the team struggled to overcome the damage of injuries, as well as other issues that they were facing all year long.

Furthermore, just weeks after their failed campaign came to an end, Magic Johnson, who played a big part on acquiring LeBron James, decided to step down as the Lakers’ president of basketball operations after a two-year stint with the team.

Apparently, this disastrous year made Lakers governor and controlling owner Jeanie Buss wonder about the chances of keeping LeBron James. Appearing on ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Buss opened up how she wouldn’t have faulted LeBron if he had ended up leaving the team, especially after losing Magic Johnson in their first year.

“I wouldn’t have faulted LeBron coming back and saying this isn’t what I signed up. Because Magic was a big reason why he came to the Lakers to begin with.

“LeBron wasn’t gonna waste the last few years of his career being in a place that didn’t know what it was doing. He could’ve easily said, ‘I want out’, ‘I want to go somewhere else’.”
