Shaquille O’Neal Shares Epic Story Of Why He Began Selling Affordable Shoes At Walmart
Shaquille O’Neal is known for wanting to make people happy. The Big Diesel regularly picks up the bill for random people, whether that be laptops, furniture or engagement rings.
Shaq now revealed the incredible story of why he decided to start selling affordable shoes, eventually even turning down a $40 million contract with Reebok.
One of the reasons was a random woman who went off on him because kids could not afford the high priced shoes of the athletes.
“My best story is, I had a Reebok deal, $40M for 5 and I’m leaving the arena one day and this lady and ripping me a new one: ‘You motherfuckers charging these babies all this money for the shoes’.
I had like $2,000 in my pocket and said ‘Maam, I don’t make the prices…Here ya go’ and she smacked the money out of my hand. ‘Why don’t you motherfuckers make a shoe that’s affordable?’
…and I thought about it. You know what, she’s right. So that day I cut ties with Reebok and started my own brand. I told them to keep to keep the money, this ain’t right.”
