Allen Iverson Thinks Kwame Brown Wasn’t A Bust: “He Was Put In A Tough Position”
Kwame Brown was the first player selected in the 2001 NBA draft. He was taken by Washington Wizards ahead of defensive stalwart Tyson Chandler and one of the greatest power forwards of all-time Pau Gasol, who respectively went second and third overall pick.
Brown’s career didn’t pan out as expected, and the former Wizards center ended up transforming himself into one of the biggest busts in NBA history with averages of 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds on 49.2% shooting, without securing any major NBA accolade.
It’s understandable why almost everyone considers Kwame as an NBA draft bust, given how his career turned out as the first overall pick. For former Philadelphia 76ers superstar Allen Iverson however, Kwame’s ‘bust’ reputation will never sit right with him.
“He was put in a tough position, man, being the number 1 player in the NBA at that young of an age. And like I said, going to a squad that want to win, they had black Jesus on that squad. You trying to win now! It’s just, I didn’t like the way it turned out because a lot of guys that he did get into it with is guys I love and respect.
“So, I didn’t like the whole fiasco anyway. It gave me a bad feeling.”
He added on, saying,“Kwame did what he did, he was successful. I know him as a person and as a teammate. I know he had fun when he played, enjoyed himself, and Kwame had a lot of great moments.”
