Warriors Are Worried That Andrew Wiggins’ Anti-Vax Choice Will Have Him Ineligible To Play Home Games

While Andrew Wiggins is a 20 point per game scorer for his career, and has all the tools to turn his career around, the former number one overall pick is already a step behind his peers and has been underwhelming based upon his hype and expectations coming into the NBA.

But last season, his first with the Warriors, Wiggins made a name for himself in a more diminished role and with improved shooting and improved defense.

Before the start of the new season though, Wiggins has found himself in some less positive discussions again. While the NBA is not requiring its players to be vaccinated, local jurisdiction in some parts of the U.S requires vaccination to enter an arena. One of these arenas is the Golden State Warriors’s ‘Chase Center’. Since Wiggins has declined to get vaccinated, there’s increasing concern among the Warriors front office about his availability this season.

Per the San Fransisco Chronicle: 

San Francisco requires full vaccination to be allowed indoors for entertainment, including large events like NBA games at 18,000-seat Chase Center. New York City is the only other NBA market currently facing such restrictions.

League sources believe the NBA will grant Wiggins a religious exemption, but San Francisco has the power to override it inside the city.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health said it would not comment on Wiggins’ specific situation unless he is granted a religious exemption from the NBA.
