The NBA’s Greatest Players Of All Time Draft
Since the NBA will announce its 75th Anniversary Team, comprised of the 75 greatest players in league history, October 19 through October 21, let’s take a look back to one of my favorite shows to rewatch of all time.
To kick off the 2011 NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles, TNT hosted a fantasy style greatest players of all time draft. Ernie Johnson was hosting the show and the six competitors were former NBA stars Charles Barkley, Kevin McHale, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber, Steve Kerr and Kenny Smith.
Each of these six had to draft 10 players for their teams (the draft was held in snake format), from a pool of (then) current players and NBA legends.
Since Charles Barkley had the most All-Star appearances of all team captains, he was awarded with the first pick. One may think that in a format like this, the controversy wouldn’t start in the first couple of rounds, yet it did when Chuck left Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain on the board, to select Allen Iverson with his first pick. Barkley may have misunderstood the format, but the pick was made and all hell broke lose. As you can imagine, the other 5 managers made fun of Chuck from there on out until the end of the show.
There were so many funny moments, it really is worth the watch.
Kenny Smith: “There would be no NBA logo if it wasn’t for Jerry West.”
Reggie Miller: “It’d just be someone else.”
“Allen Iverson….Who you gonna take next? Eric Snow?”
