Steve Kerr Thinks Andrew Wiggins Has Made An All-Star Case This Season: “One Of The Best Two-Way Players In The League”
The Golden State Warriors have been silencing critics all year and are currently the No.1 seed in the Western Conference with 28 wins and 7 losses. One key player who has been a big part of their success is Andrew Wiggins.
Wiggins has been a bright spot, bringing in some needed impact on both ends of the floor. This season, the 26-year old forward is averaging 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game on 48.7% shooting from the field.
The numbers aren’t exactly new to Wiggins as he’s used to putting up 20-point bombs ever since he started his career. Becoming a defensive stalwart, an efficient three-point threat and a winning commodity however may be an unfamiliar territory for the former No.1 overall pick.
Amid of his stellar season, Wiggins received some massive praise from Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Speaking in depth of Wiggins, Kerr appointed him as one of the best two-way players in the league and even claimed that he deserves to be in the All-Star game this season.
Per Yahoo Sports:
“He’s one of the best two-way players in the league,” Kerr told reporters. “Night in and night out he gives us 18 or 20 points. He’s shooting 42 percent from the three, he’s guarding the most difficult player on the court every single night at the other end. He’s taken on the role defensively that is just crucial to our team with Klay [Thompson] out.”
“At [6-foot-8], strong and athletic, he can switch on to bigs and hold his own, but also guard the smaller point guards in the league who cause so much havoc,” Kerr said. “Just an incredibly valuable player. I also believe the All-Star Game should be about wins. You know, anytime there’s players that are close together in the balloting, the voting, I think being on winning teams should count for something. And obviously, we’ve had a great start to the season so I think Wiggs deserves to be an All-Star.”
