Dirk Nowitzki Says That Mavs’ 2011 Championship Run Credits Back To Luck, Rather Than Skill

The Dallas Mavericks, led by and incredible Dirk Nowitzki, proved everyone wrong and beat the Heat in six games during the 2011 NBA Finals.

The Mavericks put on a show in the playoffs, beat a up-and-coming Blazers team, swept the two-time defending champions Los Angeles Lakers and beat the Oklahoma City Thunder with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden, before beating the Miami Heat’s big three, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the Finals.

While this definitely was one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history, especially by a single-star led team, the star himself though now said that this Championship run credits back to luck, rather than skill.

During an appearance Dirk Nowitzki on the Ryan Russillo Podcast, the 14-time All-Star said:

“Well, I think we were a little fortunate and I gotta say that was their first year that they were together. LeBron and Wade and Bosh were still trying to figure out how they play with each other…

I think there were still some question marks in their own minds about how this is going to work. So I think we snuck in there at the right time. Obviously, they were way more talented than us and we had a group that had great chemistry.”
