J.J. Redick Compares Current Lakers Team To 2013 Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers entered the season with high expectations after adding a third star in Russell Westbrook to pair with their dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Unfortunately, it hasn’t exactly worked out the way others said it would.

The Lakers have recently dropped out of the play-in tournament and are now the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 31-44 record. They’ve been trailing behind the likes of Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans, who have been marred by injuries just like them.

Their current struggles have led comparisons to the 2012-2013 Lakers team that featured a trio of Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. Former NBA sharpshooter and now-media personality J.J. Redick sees that clearly and elaborated the comparison during his appearance on ESPN’s First Take.

“There are some comparisons between that Lakers team in 2012-2013 and this year’s Lakers team. That was the Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Kobe Lakers team that never figured it out. And this team, again, has never figured it out. Some of that, of course, is [because] LeBron’s had some injuries, AD has some injuries, but both of these teams have just completely underperformed relative to expectations,” Redick shared.
