Sixers Forward Georges Niang Explains Why Joel Embiid Should Be MVP: “He’s A 7-Foot Kobe Bryant… He’s Gotta Be The MVP”
Joel Embiid has had the season of a lifetime, finishing with averages of 30.6 points (1st in the league), 11.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game on 49.9% shooting from the field while leading the Philadelphia 76ers to the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 51-31.
He has made headlines all season long and has done enough to propel himself at the top of the NBA conversation. However, the 28-year old Sixers center didn’t simply climb up the ladder without some heavy competition.
It still remains a debate among NBA fans whether Embiid has done enough to surpass the likes of Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the MVP race. At this point, one could even argue that the race is leaning towards his fellow big man Jokic winning the coveted MVP award.
That being said, many observers are still firm believers that Embiid should win this year’s MVP. Among those is Embiid’s teammate Georges Niang. Appearing on “First Time, Long Time” podcast, the Sixers power forward went on a rant and argued why Embiid should be the MVP.
“[If] Joel doesn’t win MVP I’m gonna snap. Whatever some nerdy statistician wants to pull out of his ass… f*ck outta here,” Niang said. “You look at him, he’s a 7-foot Kobe Bryant.”
“He’s [Embiid] gotta be the MVP this year, especially what he’s doing this year. We’ve had so much drama around the team and the fact that he can be a leader through all that and still dominate at a high level for 82 games, I think that says something.”
“Whatever some nerdy statistician wants to pull out of their ass… fuck outta here.”@GeorgesNiang20 has beef with the NBA stat nerds (and so do we).
