Kenny Smith Says Mark Jackson Could Coach The Los Angeles Lakers To A Championship
The Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Frank Vogel following a tumultuous season that had them missing the NBA playoffs. Vogel, who took the reigns in 2019, put up a 127-98 (56.4%) record during his time with the Lakers and helped the team win a championship in 2020.
The Lakers will now be looking for a new head coach tasked to work around the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Rumors have emerged that former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson could be a potential candidate.
Jackson compiled a 121-109 record with the Warriors in his three seasons with the team. He was fired after the 2014 season and hasn’t coached in the NBA since then. Despite this, Jackson remains a popular name on the coaching carousel.
Speaking of the Jackson-Lakers rumors, former Houston Rockets sharpshooter and now-TNT host Kenny Smith claimed that the 57-year old former NBA head coach is someone who could coach the Lakers to a championship.
“Mark Jackson, he knows how to handle that kind of environment,” Smith said in response to a query about the Lakers’ next coach. “Mark Jackson could coach the Lakers to a championship, for sure,” Smith said.
