Trae Young Explains His Eight Point Performance And Remains Confident Going Forward

Trae Young, who almost single-handedly led the Atlanta Hawks to the playoffs had an incredible rough afternoon in Game 1 against the Miami Heat.

The All-Star point guard, who was able to lead the league in total points and assists made this season, was held to a mere eight points, on one-of-eight shooting.

We know that the Heat are an incredible defensive team, but holding Young to one made field goal in a playoff game is unheard of, and while Young certainly also missed one or the other open attempt, the Heat’s defense was impeccable.

In his post-game press conference, Young was asked if he thinks his off-day was due to the Heat’s defense, or due to the fact that the Hawks just came off their Play-In game, while the Heat almost had a week off before the game:

“I think it is a little bit of both,” Young said. “We played less than 48 hours ago. You definitely feel the heavy legs, but you have to give them credit. They came out aggressive, they came out with a lot of energy. They made some shots and made plays. Got to give them credit too.”

It only was one game and things could look differently in Game 2 already. Young at least remains positive and believes that the Hawks will show a different face Tuesday night, when they’ll play Game 2.

“I am very confident we are going to turn this around, first of all. Second of all, whenever teams are trapping and doing things like that, it’s not necessarily just me,” Young said. “I have to make sure my teammates are in the right place. It is more about getting guys to the right place and making the right reads. It is a collective unit when a guy gets trapped.”
