Kenyon Martin Says Kevin Durant Should Ask The Brooklyn Nets To Trade Kyrie Irving

The Brooklyn Nets were eliminated early in the playoffs following a four-game series sweep coming at the hands of the Boston Celtics. It was a brutal series for the whole team, especially for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Durant posted one of the worst series of his career with averages of 26.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game on an abysmal 38.6% shooting from the field. He was the focus of defense, and Durant failed to figure it out.

Irving being a no-show during the last three games of the series didn’t help at all. After a 39-point game in Game 1, Irving then followed it up with a lackluster level of play and averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game on 37.2% shooting to conclude the series. 

Now, former NBA defensive forward Kenyon Martin had a lot to say following Brooklyn’s elimination. Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Martin argued that Durant made a wrong decision leaving the Golden State Warriors to team up with Irving in Brooklyn. While putting Irving on a blast, Martin said that Durant should ditch the 30-year old Nets point guard.

 “I think he did pick the wrong situation, especially from where he came from. He could have stayed in Golden State, they could have ironed out their differences and they could have ran the league for the foreseeable future. But he made the decision to come and play with Kyrie.”

“If not him, then trade me. He has to go man because it’s not about us,” Martin said when asked if Durant should ask the Nets to trade Irving. “We athletes are selfish to a certain degree, but when that selfishness comes before our team and what we’re trying to accomplish, then that’s a problem.”
