Grant Williams Admits He Used To Be A Warriors Fan: “I Was A Draymond Guy”
After outlasting the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics are headed to the NBA Finals to square off against the Golden State Warriors, who have reached their sixth NBA Finals appearance in eight years.
Apparently, this NBA Finals matchup offers a bit of a bizarre feeling for Celtics forward Grant Williams. The 23-year old is now an indispensable part of Boston’s rotation, but it wasn’t long ago when he was just another fan rooting for the Warriors dynasty.
During the NBA Finals Media Day, Williams remembered watching the Dubs go against LeBron James in the NBA Finals while admitting that he was rooting for the Warriors because he was a fan of Draymond Green.
“When LeBron [James] blocked (Andre Iguodala’s shot in the 2016 Finals) I knew exactly where I was, where the Warriors won it for the first time,” Williams told reporters at Media Day on Wednesday.
“I was in college and I remember watching the game, I was going for the Warriors back in the day because I was a Draymond guy and that was a fun moment for me because my teammates were all going for Bron … All these guys were betting on the Cavs and when they beat them, I talked so much trash for a week.”
