One Western Conference Scout Says Karl-Anthony Towns Doesn’t Deserve A Supermax Extension
Karl-Anthony-Towns had a strong season for the Minnesota Timberwolves as he put up 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game on 52.9% shooting from field while leading the team to the NBA playoffs.
He had his rough patches in the playoffs, but he was still able to produce some decent numbers with 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 48.8% shooting from the field and 45.5% shooting from the three-point line.
After being selected to the All-NBA Third Team in this recent 2021-2022 NBA regular season, the 26-year old offensive big man is eligible to sign a four-year, $211M supermax extension with the Wolves in the upcoming summer.
While there’s some sort of expectation that the Wolves would be willing to give Towns the supermax contract, one Western Conference scout argued that Towns hasn’t done anything to receive a supermax contract.
Per HoopsHype:
“One NBA scout for a Western Conference team told me, ‘Quite frankly, I wouldn’t give him the supermax,’” Scotto said. “‘I don’t think he deserves it. He hasn’t done anything to become a supermax guy. He’s super talented, but he’s kind of flaky.’”
