Montrezl Harrell Is Facing Felony Drug Charges And Could Face Up To Five Years In Prison If Convicted

Montrezl Harrell is facing felony drug charges after he was pulled over in Richmond, Kentucky during a traffic stop last month and was admitted to being in possession of three pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana in his car.

The Charlotte Hornets big man was pulled over on May 12 for driving behind a vehicle too closely. The incident then led to thorough search after a Kentucky state trooper said that he smelled marijuana from the silver 2020 Honda Pilot that Harrell was driving.

Harrell is charged with trafficking less than five pounds of marijuana, classified as a Class D felony for a first-time offender. The 28-year old’s preliminary hearing is scheduled on July 13. If convicted, Harrell could face up to five years in prison.

Harrell, who is set to become a free agent this summer, averaged 11.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on 64.5% shooting from the field in 25 games for the Hornets in this recent 2021-2022 NBA regular season. The team is yet to comment on his situation.
