Bill Simmons Believes Stephen Curry Has Passed Shaquille O’Neal And Hakeem Olajuwon On All-Time List

Stephen Curry is in the news more than usual these days. Rightfully so, since the 34-year old offensive marksman has earned yet another notch on his belt, winning his fourth NBA title and his first Finals MVP.

Curry’s amazing feat has sparked discussions surrounding his place in the pantheon of all-time greats, and everyone has come up with their own opinion. Bill Simmons, founder of The Ringer and generally a popular media personality, is one guy who weighed in on Curry’s legacy.

Appearing on his own podcast, Simmons said that Curry is already among the top 10 greatest players in NBA history, ranking the four-time Warriors champion ahead of polarizing NBA greats such as Moses Malone, Shaquille O’Neal and Hakeem Olajuwon, to name a few.

“I think he’s in the top 10 for me now. I had him behind the following six guys that I think he has now leapfrogged: the great Moses Malone, Shaquille O’Neal. God bless Shaq, but the flaw with him was those last four minutes in a close game… Hakeem Olajuwon, I think he passed him. Because I think the added thing of how he just changed how basketball is played.”

“I got him passing (Oscar) Robertson and (Jerry) West and then Durant. Durant never did this. You can’t put Durant ahead of Curry – Durant never was decidedly the best player on a team that was built around him. He had the chance in 2016 and didn’t deliver. He had the chance in 2021 and this year, and didn’t deliver.”
