Philadelphia 76ers May Soon Be Bringing Back The Black Jerseys Allen Iverson Made Famous

About 25 years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers decided to change things up when temporarily ditching their red and blue colorways on jerseys for the infamous black and golds, that ended up being a huge success, not least due to Allen Iverson.

Iverson not only brought the Sixers back to the top of the Eastern Conference, he also assisted in the design of the jerseys.

While the Sixers have long gone back to their red and blue jerseys, the black and gold ones may celebrate a comeback in the near future, as they reportedly are in the conversation to be worn as ‘classic’ jerseys, the next time Philly will be allowed to.

Fans will have to wait for a bit though, as this coming season, the Sixers won’t be one of the teams authorized by the NBA to wear a throwback jersey.

Per The Philadelphia Inquirer:

“I would be ecstatic,” said Tom O’Grady, who designed the jerseys 25 years ago when he was the NBA’s creative director. “I think the fans would be happy. I think it would be good. It doesn’t have to be the dominant uniform, but maybe for Saturday games or special games. It wouldn’t feel forced. They had a run, they went to the Finals in that uniform. It’s not foreign to the Philly fans.”
