Why The Brooklyn Nets Are Not Allowed To Trade KD For A Bunch Of Superstars Like Booker, Tatum, Bam, Embiid & Many More
All the buzz about the futures of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in Brooklyn far from being certain, and either one or both of them possibly be heading elsewhere, calmed down when Irving signed his player extension.
But we all know that appearances are deceptive, and with yesterday’s reports about Durant asking to be traded, all hell broke lose.
Every team available seems to be looking to trade for the superstar, that has four years left on his contract. People are for certain that we’ll see one of the biggest trade packages in NBA history, as we’ve never seen a top three player who still is on a for year deal with no trade clause, being made available.
But with all the excitement and trade ideas on social media, there is a huge list of NBA stars Durant can’t be traded for, according to NBA rules and regulations.
The Nets have Ben Simmons, whose contract was made possible due to the ‘Designated Rookie Extension rule’, that allows teams to sign players coming off of rookie contracts to a five-year extension rather than the typical four. The problem for the Nets is, that a team is only allowed to acquire one player on such contract (you are allowed up to two rookies for such contracts, but only one acquired via trade).
This means that a whole bunch of potential candidates are not eligible to be traded to the Nets. Here’s the list:
- Devin Booker
- Bam Adebayo
- Joel Embiid
- Jayson Tatum
- Karl Anthony Towns
- Donovan Mitchell
- Andrew Wiggins
- Jamal Murray
- De’Aaron Fox
- Michael Porter Jr.
- Trae Young
