LeBron James Appears To Believe That The U.S. Isn’t Doing Enough To Make Sure Brittney Griner Gets Home
After Russian customs officials found vape cartridges that contained hashish oil in basketball star Brittney Griner’s luggage this past February, she was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
This has led to Griner becoming a valuable asset for the Russians, who are trying to exchange her for arms trafficker Viktor Bout, who is imprisoned in the U.S., in a prisoner swap.
Last week, Griner then pleaded guilty to bringing hashish oil into Russia, letting the judge know that she had done so inadvertently while asking the court for mercy.
While she now faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted, insiders believe that the guilty plea was a strategy to help facilitate a prisoner swap.
in the meantime, LeBron James has been speaking out on Brittney Griner and the entire situation.
In a trailer for a ‘The Shop’ episode, LeBron appeared to be believing that the U.S. isn’t doing enough to make sure she gets home.
“How can she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ‘do I even want to go back to America?'”
After receiving some major backlash for his statement, he clarified his remarks on Twitter:
“My comments on “The Shop” regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short #BringHerHome”
