Robert Horry Thinks Shareef O’Neal Hasn’t Done Enough To Earn The “O’Neal” Last Name

Shareef O’Neal, son of Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal, was a four-star prospect coming out of high school. However, a number of health problems including a heart surgery ultimately hampered his basketball journey.

While Shareef went undrafted in this year’s NBA Draft coming out of LSU, the 22-year old prospect had the opportunity to play for the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA Summer League and has recently signed a six-figure deal with the NBA G-League Ignite.

Shareef only appeared in six summer league games where he averaged 4.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. While he still has a lot of room to grow, seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry isn’t sure whether Shareef has that dog in him to play at an elite level.

“I picked up my phone and I was getting ready to call Shaq like ‘Yo man, you gotta tell your son…he can’t be playing off the damn O’Neal name. He gotta go out there and play.’ You gotta put forth some more effort man. You know Shareef’s such a nice kid, that I don’t know if he has that dog in him to go out there and take what he wants.”
