Rob Pelinka Wants LeBron To Retire As A Laker, Promised Every Resource To Win A Championship Each Year

The Los Angeles Lakers were a massive disappointment in the recent NBA season, missing the NBA playoffs with a record of 33 wins and 49 losses. While the Lakers showed a ton of problems, many fans and basketball pundits believe that Russell Westbrook was the main reason the team underachieved.

One can count on Westbrook to fill up the stat-sheet as he averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game on 44.4% shooting from the field for the Lakers in the regular season. But there’s one big mess that the stats cannot show, and it is Westbrook’s fit with the team.

It’s no secret that Westbrook needs the ball in his hands to be effective, but he can’t do that as much while playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who also need the ball to operate. The fact that Westbrook is a poor shooter doesn’t help the team as well.

While there still is some uncertainty towards the new season, James, Westbrook and Davis held a phone conversation and expressed their commitment to one another a couple of weeks ago.

Before that, and after however, there have been some rumors that LeBron James may end up leaving the Los Angeles Lakers in the near future.

The Lakers though, are trying to prevent this at all costs. Rob Pelinka reportedly told LeBron James that he wants him to retire as a Laker, while promising to provide the four-time champion with every resource possible to win a championship every single year of his Lakers tenure.

Per Yahoo! Sports:

As for roster tinkering, Pelinka explained patience will be key in any potential moves the team makes, sources said. In a collaborative effort, all parties appear to be aligned on a common vision of seeing how the roster plays out before any drastic moves are sought.

Pelinka made his feelings clear that he wants James to retire as a Laker and promised to provide him with every resource possible to compete for a championship each year he’s with the organization, sources said.
