Dennis Rodman Plans To Travel To Russia To Seek Release Of Brittney Griner

Dennis Rodman played for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks.

During his active playing career, Dennis Rodman was mainly known for his fierce defense and rebounding abilities in the 1990s. He also was one of the NBA’s ‘baddest Bad Boys’ with plenty of controversial off court stories.

His off court controversy hasn’t stopped after his retirement, on the contrary, it’s grown even bigger.

As you may know, Rodman and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are good friends. Rodman was in North Korea numerous times, trying to create some common ground between the U.S. and North Korea, and got publicly criticized for it.

Now, Rodman is off to another adventure. The Hall of Famer said he “got permission” to go to Russia to seek the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner, while claiming to also know Vladimir Putin well.

Per NBC:

“I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl,” Rodman told NBC News at a restaurant in D.C. “I’m trying to go this week.”

Griner has been in a Russian prison ever since customs officials found vape cartridges that contained hashish oil in her luggage, and has become a valuable asset for the Russians.

While the U.S. Government has been negotiating a prisoner swap with Russia for the past week’s, Rodman’s plan to conduct informal diplomacy could potential harm Griner’s case:

“It’s public information that the administration has made a significant offer to the Russians and anything other than negotiating further through the established channel is likely to complicate and hinder release efforts,”
