People Within Lakers Organization Hopeful That Kyrie Irving Will Join The Team Next Season
After missing last season’s playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers entered the offseason on a mission to improve their roster and with high hopes of acquiring another star which happened to be Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving.
The trade rumors between Irving and the Lakers have run rampant all offseason long, but the noise has finally settled after Kevin Durant rescinded his trade request from the Nets, thus closing the door for a potential Irving trade.
While the Irving trade didn’t come to fruition right away, a latest report from Nets beat writer Alex Schiffer suggested that people in Los Angeles are still hopeful that Irving, who has a player option for the 2022-23 season, will join the Lakers next season.
Per Lakers Daily:
“You talk to people over in Los Angeles, they still really feel like Kyrie is coming to them next year,” said Schiffer. “I’m curious to see how that goes over with recent events.”
“I’ve wondered still, if the Nets season goes by the wayside with Kyrie as an attractive rental piece to someone at the deadline, do they swap a deal to get assets back for him?” Schiffer speculated. “I don’t necessarily think today’s news puts it off the table.”
