Epic, New Kobe Bryant-Pau Gasol Mamba Mentality Story Revealed In Newest ‘The Redeem Team’ Trailer
After the United States came away with disappointing Bronze Medals during the 2004 Summer Olympics (not winning gold for the first time ever) and the 2006 FIBA World Championship, the who is who of the NBA elite decided to team up, to bring Team USA back to its usual winning days.
Due to them looking for redemption the team was named ‘The Redeem Team’, in remembrance of the ‘Dream Team’.
Just like the ‘Dream Team’, the ‘Redeem Team’ was one of the best basketball teams assembled in the history of the sport, with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Jason Kidd, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, Michael Redd, Carlos Boozer and Tayshaun Prince on its roster.
As previously reported, this team will now get its own Netflix documentary, starting October 7.
In a newly released trailer for the series, we’ve got a little reminder of just how much Kobe Bryant actually lived his Mamba Mentality mantra.
When the United States and Spain first squared off in the group stages, Kobe played against his good friend and teammate, Pau Gasol. Bryant ran into a screen-setting Gasol in the opening moments of the game, knocking Pau to the ground- turns out the hard foul wasn’t unintentional.
In the new ‘Redeem Team’ Clip, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade revealed that Bryant actually planned the foul beforehand, much to the shock of his Team USA teammates.
LeBron James: “Kobe said, ‘I’m running through Pau’s f****g chest.’ Man, you trippin. That’s your teammate. You ain’t about to do that.”
Carmelo Anthony: “He was like, ‘No, he ain’t my teammate right now. F**k him. Get up.'”
