John Salley Says The NBA Won’t Allow LeBron James To Pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar On All-Time Scoring List
When this current season tipped off, LeBron James entered his 20th season of his NBA career. While the Lakers don’t look like they’re playing for anything this season, James still has one huge goal he is looking to achieve this season.
James is on the verge of passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the top spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. And even though it has looked like Father Time is creeping up, James still appears to have plenty of gas left in the tank. Last season, he’s averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game on 52.4%, numbers that may have dropped this year, but nonetheless are pretty impressive.
But while it is likely for LeBron to pass Kareem at some point in January or February, former NBA player John Salley believes it’s not going to happen at all. Salley has a pretty unique theory as to why he believes that the NBA won’t let James pass Abdul-Jabbar:
“I think they’re not gonna let him get it. … Think about it… I didn’t agree with something Phil Jackson said to me and then I got into my 50s and I got it. I said, ‘Phil. Kobe had 81. … No matter what you do, he was about to get 104.’ And he goes, ‘Well, some records need to stand’… And I was like, ‘Wow.’ … I don’t think they would give it to him.”
