Kevin Durant Explains In Detail Why He Was Seeking A Trade From The Brooklyn Nets

During the Kevin Durant sweepstakes this past offseason, news surfaced that the 33-year old superstar was not enamored with head coach Steve Nash and general manger Sean Marks to an extent that he even asked Nets owner Joe Tsai to choose between him and the pair.

It then appeared as the Nets and Durant reached a breaking point from there, it didn’t take too long for the organization to mend their situation with Durant, later on announcing that they have decided to run it back next season.

While Steve Nash indeed is gone now, Durant is playing some incredible basketball right now, with season averages of 30.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists on 51.9% shooting from the field, and 91.8% from the line.

In an interview with Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the two-time Finals MVP went into detail about his decision of wanting to be traded from the Nets, and revealed that he sought more closeout drills and practices.

Per Bleacher Report:

“It wasn’t difficult at all to request a trade because it was about ball. I went to them and was like, ‘Yo, I don’t like how we are preparing. I don’t like shootarounds. I like practices. I need more. I want to work on more sh*t. Hold me accountable…I want to do more closeouts. I want to work on more shell drills at practice….

… I wasn’t feeling that, and nobody was on that same vibe with me. Jacque Vaughn is. I had some complaints in the summer, and my complaints were not about just me; it was about how we are moving as a unit. I want us to be respected out here in the basketball world. I don’t want players to look at us and say, ‘Oh man, these (expletive) are full of sh*t. That’s not the type of team I want to be on.’ So when we’re all playing like sh*t, you know the one person they’re going to look at. That’s why I requested a trade.”
