Steve Kerr Admits Warriors Core Is In Its ‘Final Stages’, May Be Final Year Of That Group
Draymond Green is an instrumental piece for the Golden State Warriors and has made his mark as one of the team’s cornerstones. However, it’s obvious that Green, while being an impactful player, has had a ton of rough patches over the past few years.
This has contributed to the idea of whether keeping Green in the long run is the right option for the Warriors. Given also that teammates Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole signed high volume extensions, the Warriors seem to have opted to go with them over their four-time NBA champion.
What will happen exactly still is in the future, but a break-up of the most successful big three in recent history appears to be a logical step.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr now also talked about the Warriors core being in its finals stages and reflected on what this means.
“This is my ninth year,” Kerr explains. “If you look at the core — Steph, Klay, Draymond, Andre — those guys have been together for basically a decade. That doesn’t happen in sports.
“But when you have a backcourt like these two guys who are just so potent and explosive, but also just so naturally humble and respectful to everyone around them, that allows for an organization to get through the rough patches.
“But it can only last so long. We know this isn’t going forever. This could be the last year, maybe next year is the last year. We’re in the final stages. We know that. We want to make the most of it.”
