Former NBA Referee Ken Mauer Is Suing The NBA Over Its Vaccine Mandate
Ken Mauer certainly is one of the most famous and longest-tenured NBA referees in history. Mauer has officiated 1,935 regular-season games in over 33 seasons as an NBA referee. He has also worked 218 playoff games, including 19 Finals games.
But since last year’s season, we quietly haven’t seen Mauer in any NBA games anymore. In February, Mauer spoke about it for the first time and said that the NBA banned him because of his refusal to take the vaccine. The former referee citied ‘religious reasons’ for not wanting to be vaccinated.
Now, Mauer alongside his former colleagues Jason Phillips and Mark Ayotte, is suing the NBA on a claim that they were suspended or fired for failing to follow the NBA’s COVID-19 vaccinate mandate despite requesting religious and/or medical exemptions.
Per WCCO-AM 830:
“I just think it’s time that people find out how ridiculous some of these reasons are for denying these exemptions. I’ve been a Catholic and a Christian since I was born. I never thought that having a faith in our Lord Jesus Christ would prevent me from refereeing NBA basketball games but it has.”
