Ja Morant Speaks Out On Derrick Rose Paving The Way For Athletic Guards: “Coming In, He Was My Comparison”
Ja Morant has opened up the 2022-23 NBA campaign with more edge after a breakout campaign last season. Through 17 games, the Memphis Grizzlies star has been putting up 28.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game on 47.2% shooting from the field.
As one of the top players in the NBA, Morant stands up not only to the box score numbers but also to the eye test as well. Morant is physically explosive, can easily cut through the defense, and can finish at the rim with improbable acrobatic shots.
Given his athletic and explosive guard qualities, Morant now gave credit to New York Knicks point guard and 2011 MVP Derrick Rose for paving the way for athletic point guards like him. The two players recently faced off each other on Sunday night.
Via Memphis Commercial Appeal:
“He really made it to where people believe in guys like me. Coming in, athletic guards, I felt like he was pretty much the one who kind of made it more famous. With how acrobatic his finish is, his touch around the rim, and how explosive he was. Coming in, he was my comparison. It’s crazy to be out there on the floor sharing a court with him.”
