Video Shows Superfan ‘Clipper Darrell’ Getting Knocked Out By Sucker Punch From Security Guard
Many of the NBA’s 30 franchises have superfans. While some of them were famous before becoming superfans, like Knicks’ superfan Spike Lee, other’s have gained popularity through their status as superfans such as Raptors’ Nav Bhatia and Clippers Darrell.
Clippers Darrell has been a season ticket holder with the Los Angeles Clippers since the 2000-01 season and can often be seen and heard close to the court heckling opponents.
Monday’s game against the Celtics however, might be THE game he isn’t going to forget for a long time… for all the wrong reasons.
A video shared by TMZ shows Darrell arguing with a security guard, leading to a huge sucker punch by the security guard, which resulted in Darrell being knocked out. The security guard was arrested and has since been fired.
Per TMZ:
At one point, the man can be seen in the video putting his elbow near Darrell’s neck in what seems to be an effort to keep him from advancing. Darrell, the footage shows, then swiped at the man’s arm to get it off of him.
That’s when the man in the red balled up his fist and swung on Clipper Darrell — connecting straight with the superfan’s jaw.
Darrell crashed into a nearby trash receptacle … and appeared to lose consciousness.
