Damian Lillard Warns Shai Gilgeous-Alexander About Joining A Different Team: “Grass Is Not Always Greener”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has turned himself into an All-Star caliber player for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, averaging an impressive 31.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game on 49.8% shooting from the field.
That being said, the OKC Thunder are penciled as a rebuilding team and have 17 first-round draft picks over the next six years. As much as Shai wants to win, it doesn’t seem that his team is focused on taking that direction anytime sooner.
Because of this, many fans believe that a trade would be beneficial for both parties, as the Thunder could bring in more draft capital and enticing young assets in replace, while Gilgeous-Alexander may have the chance to ball out on a winning team.
Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard however shared some advice for the 24-year old Thunder star about going to a different team. As someone who knows a thing or two about loyalty, Lillard told Shai that grass is not always greener on the other side.
“I would tell him a lot of these people that are saying ‘free him’ and all of these things or whatever, they are not the people that are going to have to live with the consequences if it doesn’t work out.”
