Dirk Nowitzki He’s Running Out Of Arguments For His MJ GOAT Take If LeBron Becomes All-Time Scoring Leader
The Dallas Mavericks, led by and incredible Dirk Nowitzki, proved everyone wrong and beat the Heat in six games during the 2011 NBA Finals.
The Mavericks put on a show in the playoffs, beat a up-and-coming Blazers team, swept the two-time defending champions Los Angeles Lakers and beat the Oklahoma City Thunder with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden, before beating the Miami Heat’s big three, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the Finals.
This definitely was one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history, especially by a single-star led team.
Yesterday, before their Christmas Day matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavericks unveiled a 24-foot-high statue of Nowitzki just around the corner from the street renamed a few years ago as Nowitzki Way, and in front of the Mavs’ American Airlines Center.
During the press conference of the event, Dirk Nowitzki took the mic and also was asked about who his GOAT is, and about LeBron James, who he beat in the 2011 Finals. While saying that Jordan is the GOAT, Dirk also revealed that he’s running out of arguments for Michael, in the wake of LeBron James passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the top spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
“I mean, tremendous that he can still play like this in year 20. The athleticism is incredible, so I’m happy for him. I always say Michael Jordan is the GOAT. If he [LeBron] really surpasses Kareem in the scoring record, I’m sort of running out of arguments for Michael. What this guy has done has been nothing short of incredible. The longevity, and I always say, you being called ‘King’ at 15, and how he turned out and what he’s done for the communities where he’s played and changed so many lives, so he’s a very very special athlete and I think for now we’ll appreciate watching him at the level that he’s playing.”
