Nate McMillan Reportedly Considers Resigning As Hawks Head Coach
Nate McMillan was hired as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks in 2020, following a successful stint as an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers. However, McMillan’s tenure in Atlanta has been anything but smooth sailing.
While McMillan’s time in Atlanta has certainly been tumultuous, he is a respected coach with a track record of success.
One main issue however, that has arisen during McMillan’s time with the Hawks is his relationship with star point guard Trae Young. Young is the face of the franchise and a key player for the team, but there were reports of tension between him and McMillan.
It was reported that Young was unhappy with McMillan’s coaching style and that the two had disagreements on the court. This led to speculation about Young’s long-term future with the team, and whether or not he would want to remain in Atlanta if McMillan remained as head coach.
This is one reason why it appears that McMillan’s Hawks tenure will be coming to an end after the season, if he doesn’t resign before.
Per The Athletic:
“I’m coaching in a different generation of players that I played with and really kind of coached,” McMillain said, “it’s different the way you communicate, the way the game is played and how they see the game. They see the game different than when I played it and when I started coaching.”
In midst of turbulent season, Atlanta Hawks head coach Nate McMillan has strongly considered resigning from his position, sources say.
