Gregg Popovich Sarcastically Urges NBA To Create Four- & Five-Point Shots To Create ‘Real Circus’ Because No One Wants To Play Defense Anymore
Gregg Popovich is a name that needs no introduction in the world of basketball. He is the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, a team that he has led to unparalleled success in the NBA.
With five NBA championships under his belt and a record-tying 22 consecutive playoff appearances, Popovich is widely considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of the league.
But his impact goes far beyond the basketball court. Popovich is also known for his wit, wisdom, and candor off the court, making him a beloved and respected figure in the sports world and beyond.
Popovich now sarcastically expressed his anger about most teams not taking defense seriously anymore.
In the past decade, we have seen a plethora of high-scoring games. While this certainly does not only relate back to defensive performances by the teams – better shooters, importance of the three point shot, spacing, pace, etc. – there doesn’t seem to be as much emphasis on defensive intensity, as in earlier decades… at least in the regular season.
The recent point explosions in the NBA have now led to coach Popovich share his views on these outbursts, while sarcastically urging the NBA to add a 4-point and 5-point shot.
“It’s much more difficult to play defense. I’ve said before I’m just hoping that the league ends up with a 4-point shot or a 5-point shot so we can make it a real circus. It’ll be a different sport. It won’t even be basketball, it’d just be a bunch of crap”
