Bill Simmons Doesn’t See Dallas Building A Good Supporting Cast Around Luka Doncic, Says Doncic May Leave For The Miami Heat
Luka Doncic’s situation in Dallas intrigues many basketball pundits quite a bit. It’s impossible to watch Doncic carry the Mavericks without wondering whether the Mavericks have what it takes to build a championship team around the Slovenian superstar.
The Mavericks have been competitive this season, currently sitting in the No.5 spot in the Western Conference with a 24-20 record. On the other hand, Doncic doesn’t seem to have quite that help he needs yet to win an NBA championship.
In 2021, Doncic agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Mavericks that includes a player option for the 2026-27 NBA season. Though the Mavericks don’t have to worry as much about losing Doncic, the pressure is still on the team to make the right moves and keep their superstar happy.
However, renowned basketball analyst Bill Simmons doesn’t see the Mavericks putting up a solid supporting cast around Doncic to keep him happy for the long term. Appearing on “The Lowe Post” podcast, Simmons added that Doncic could leave Dallas to join the Miami Heat.
“Five years from now, what team is Luka on? I think it’s going to be really hard for Dallas to put a good enough team around him. I think they’re on the clock. How many years will he be happy? If he did switch teams for some reason, I feel like it’s Miami.”
