The All-Star Game Draft Will Take Place Just Before Tip-Off Of The All-Star Game This Year
The NBA All-Star Game is one of the most highly-anticipated events of the basketball season, and in 2018, the league shook things up by introducing a new format for the game.
Instead of the traditional East vs West matchup, the All-Star teams are now be selected through a draft process, similar to the one used in fantasy sports, by the two captains (the All-Star starters with the most fan votes in their respective conferences). This new format was made to add even more excitement to the already thrilling All-Star weekend, as fans get to see their favorite players compete in a new and unique way.
Now, for the 2023 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, the NBA and NBPA announced today, that this year’s All-Star Draft will take place right before the game for the first time ever.
It will air on TNT as a new, live pregame segment at 7:30 E.T., shortly before tip-off of the actual game. The actual draft-mode itself however, remains unchanged, with the two captains selecting players off the board after one-another.
