Last summer, Kevin Durant rescinded his trade request in hopes of a championship pursuit and running it back with co-star Kyrie Irving. Things were going well until Kyrie Irving caught the league off guard by requesting a trade out of the team. We all know that Irving has since been traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
Durant however, is yet to make a statement about his teammate’s trade request, and the eventual trade, but reports stated that the two-time Finals MVP was also surprised to hear the news.
Many basketball pundits now feel bad for Durant and think that he should have never left the Golden State Warriors. With that in mind, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith exclaimed that Durant will be remembered for leaving Stephen Curry to join Kyrie Irving.
“What will forever be attached to him is that he left Steph Curry to join Kyrie Irving. You placed a trust in a person that for one reason or another found a reason to create headlines and not be available as you would have been anticipated he would have been. That ultimately is going to get attached to Kevin Durant more so than just saying, ‘Well you know what? I wanted to part from Golden State.'”
