Dear LeBron,

Tonight I sat with my son and watched you break the NBA’s All-Time scoring record, a record that stood for 39 years, a record that seemed unbreakable.

Beyond the achievement itself, seeing the your sons in the stands, and your little girl run up to you after you hit the fadeaway really hit home.

Sports has a unique ability to bring people together, and tonight was one of those moments. While my son is young, he knows who you are, and moments like this bridge the gap between generations during a time when people feel as disconnected and misunderstood as ever.

One day I’ll be gone, and maybe down the line my son is watching the next great legend with his son, and remembers the moment we had together tonight.

It will be with him forever, and knowing that is something I’ll cherish every day.

For some people it’s just sports, but for others it mean a hell of a lot more than that.

Thank you LeBron, for the points, for the memories, for the moment, for everything.

Sincerely,

From a fan that never took you for granted.
