Trae Young is one of the best point guards in the NBA and is one that put the Atlanta Hawks back on the map. But with the Hawks still embroiled in a middling campaign resulting in them having to play in the Play-In Tournament, the 24-year old point guard hasn’t been safe from rumors going around the NBA.
It isn’t all that surprising given that Young has also found himself mired in controversy this season due to his tensions with former Hawks head coach Nate McMillan, a deteriorated relationship with former Hawks president Travis Schlenk, and rumored issues with teammates, who reportedly sided with McMillan in the dispute.
Young is under contract until the 2026-27 NBA season and hasn’t publicly voiced any dissatisfaction about his team yet. However, the Hawks themselves now seem to have given its front office the green light to potentially trade their All-Star point guard.
Per The Ringer:
League sources say the Hawks’ front office has the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster, which includes considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young..
This should come as no real surprise considering what’s transpired over the course of the season. In March, Hawks owner Tony Ressler told The Athletic’s Jeff Schultz he’s neither opening nor closing the door on any players being moved.
…Regardless of Trae’s desire to stay, it could be the Hawks that decide to change course following a likely early exit from the play-in or the postseason.
