LeBron James averages over 20 points a game versus the Memphis Grizzlies. But on Wednesday’s Game 5, the 38-year old superstar struggled to reach the 20-point mark and finished the game with just 15 points on 29.4% shooting from the field and 11.1% from the three-point line.
Anthony Davis stepped up in front of LeBron, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Grizzlies improving to 2-3 in their first-round playoffs series. After Wednesday’s game, LeBron is now averaging 22.2 points, 12.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game on 45.7% shooting from the field.
The haunting truth about LeBron is that he hasn’t had his typical dominant level of production to start the postseason. His efficiency is down and he is yet to have a big scoring night.
While that remains a concern for some fans, Anthony Davis thinks LeBron, whom he considers the greatest player of all-time, is vowed to have a better performance in Game 6.
“I had my head down and he was telling me to keep my head up. And I kind of just relayed that same message to him tonight,” Davis said. “‘You have the most points scored ever. You’re the best basketball player to ever touch the court.’
“So, it’s fine. He’ll be fine. He’ll adjust. He’ll get better. Our team will get better and Friday is another opportunity to close the series.”
