French standout Victor Wembanyama is widely regarded as the best prospect since LeBron James and has been a virtual lock at No.1 for quite some time now. With the San Antonio Spurs winning the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery, Wembanyama’s arrival to the team is seen as a foregone conclusion.
With Wembanyama being a locked for the top pick, G League Ignite point guard Scoot Henderson appears headed to the Charlotte Hornets or the Portland Trail Blazers depending on his availability during the draft night.
That being said, Henderson hasn’t lost hope that he can be picked up by the Spurs as the No.1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. Appearing in an interview, the 19-year old point guard has made it known that he has a case to go No.1 over Wembanyama.
“For sure, I think I have the possibility of going No. 1,” G League Ignite’s Scoot Henderson said Wednesday at the NBA Draft Combine at Wintrust Arena. “And I believe in myself like any competitor should. I just always go back to my mentality and the work. I can’t wait to go back home and work hard just to get ready for the upcoming season regardless of where I go. As a competitor, I want to go No. 1 and I want to build that fan base in San Antonio. But wherever I go, I’m going to bring that winning mentality.”
