Last month, the Memphis Grizzlies star was once again seen holding a gun in an Instagram Live video, which led to the NBA launching another investigation, and to the Grizzlies suspending Morant from all team activities.

In his press conference before the start of the 2023 NBA Finals, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league has found additional information, while saying that the NBA is waiting to release any details or a potential punishment until after the NBA Finals are over.

“We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series.”

Speculations have been running while ever since Silver’s statement, with most people believing Morant will face the longest suspension in NBA history. According to the Commissioner, the Morant case is about gun safety, and not a legal or political matter, per The Athletic:

“I feel across the board, regardless of what people’s individual views are on gun rights, everyone feels firearms should be handled in a safe way, and waving them around or displaying them in a certain context is not consistent with gun safety and is not the proper message that an NBA player, particularly one at Ja’s level, should be sending to the tens of millions of followers he has,” Silver said Friday at an NBA Cares event at a local Boys and Girls Club in Denver — one day after Silver said that Morant’s potential punishment would be announced soon after the finals.

“This is not commenting on any state’s laws,” Silver said. “This is, to me, an issue of gun safety.”
