Last season, Damian Lillard notched an average of 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game on 46.3% shooting from the field. Though the Portland Trail Blazers did not make the playoffs, Lillard’s individual brilliance didn’t go unnoticed as he was named to both the All-Star and All-NBA teams.
Last season showed that the Blazers superstar is still one of the best point guards in the NBA, and this is a widely accepted viewpoint. But in Lillard’s mind, he goes beyond that, believing he’s number one at his position. This sentiment was evident during his appearance on “It Is What It Is” show.
In the interview, the 33-year-old point guard was first questioned about how he stacks up against Stephen Curry. Following his initial answer, he was asked a second time to clear up whether he considers himself to be the best point guard in the NBA.
Interviewer: “You think Steph [Curry] is better than you?”
Damian Lillard: “I don’t think no one is better than me when I get on the court.”
Interviewer: “So you believe you’re the best point guard in the NBA right now?”
Damian Lillard: “Yeah.”
