Loyalty is a dying art in the world of sports. Players like Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Stephen Curry are/were the last breed of NBA stars to never “jump ship” and leave when their team is not performing up to par.
The ability to remain apart of a losing team is something only the best can do; not particularly skill wise, but mentally. Players often move around the league for two reasons; to contend for a championship or for the green paper that the world revolves around.
But loyalty goes both ways, and in today’s NBA even trying to be loyal to a team seems impossible. We’ve seen it when Isaiah Thomas, Blake Griffin and DeMar DeRozan got traded. And now, with Jrue Holiday.
Just this past Tuesday, Holiday was quoted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel saying that he wanted to spend the rest of his career with the Bucks.
“Would love to,” he said in regard to staying with Milwaukee for his career. “Before I even won here I think I said I’m a Buck for life and I mean that like deep in my heart. I don’t want to play for any other team. I think we have a chance to continue to do great things as the Bucks team and organization so I want to be in Milwaukee.”
However as we now know, only one day later, Holiday would find himself on the roster of the Portland Trail Blazers (for now), after being part of the Damian Lillard trade.
What a tough break for Holiday. But to possibly ease things up for him is the fact, that he’ll very likely will be traded again, this time to a contender.
